What N,N-Diethylethanolamine is used for
N,N-Diethylethanolamine (DEAE) is a colourless liquid with an ammoniacal, irritating odour, fully miscible with water. Both hydrogens on the amine nitrogen are replaced with ethyl groups, giving it a bulkier tertiary amine structure than its methylated cousin DMAE.
DEAE's best-known role is as a precursor in producing chemical commodities, including the local anaesthetic procaine, made by reacting it with 4-aminobenzoic acid. It is also used as a corrosion inhibitor in steam and condensate lines, where it neutralizes carbonic acid and scavenges oxygen, and as the precursor for DEAE-cellulose resin, used in ion exchange chromatography. Its solutions additionally absorb carbon dioxide.

Appearance and handling character
DEAE is both flammable and corrosive — harmful if swallowed, in contact with skin, or if inhaled, causes severe skin burns and eye damage, and may cause an allergic skin reaction — a combination that calls for ignition-source control alongside standard corrosive-liquid handling.

How we supply N,N-Diethylethanolamine
Chelora Chemicals is a supplier and sourcing partner, not a manufacturer. DEAE's pharmaceutical-intermediate use case has very different documentation needs than its power-plant water-treatment use case — that shapes how we manage this line.
We place your order with whichever qualified producer best matches your required grade, your price point and your delivery window.
We keep a second qualified source on this line, so a single-plant disruption never becomes your production problem.
- Assay confirmed before we quote. Purity matters to both pharma-intermediate and steam-treatment performance.
- Flammable-liquid logistics managed end to end. Classification, labelling and carrier compliance confirmed before booking.
- UN 2686 documentation filed correctly. Every shipment carries the correct hazard declarations.
- Scheduled call-off scheduling. We hold contracted tonnage and release it against your consumption calendar.
- Batch traceability to the producing plant. Full chain of custody documentation on request.
- Export machinery handled in-house. Classification, approved packing, labelling, freight booking and customs paperwork are ours to manage.

Flammable and corrosive — a dual hazard profile
DEAE's combination of flammability and corrosivity means both ignition control and skin/eye protection matter in routine handling. The summary below is orientation only — the safety data sheet supplied with your specific batch is the authoritative document.
Classified hazards
H226Flammable liquid and vapour.H302Harmful if swallowed.H312Harmful in contact with skin.H314Causes severe skin burns and eye damage.H317May cause an allergic skin reaction.H332Harmful if inhaled.
Always read the SDS issued with your specific batch. Eliminate ignition sources; handle with chemical-resistant gloves, splash goggles and adequate ventilation.
Storage
Store in tightly closed containers away from heat, sparks and open flame, in a well-ventilated area rated for flammable liquids.
Handling
Use with local exhaust ventilation and bond/ground equipment during transfer to control static discharge. Avoid skin and eye contact; have emergency eyewash and safety-shower provision nearby.
Transport
Shipped under UN 2686, Class 8 (corrosive, with flammability noted). We confirm and document packing group and exact classification for your specific shipment and destination.
Every batch, documented
We verify documentation before dispatch so there are no surprises at your incoming-goods bench.
Specification agreed
Assay confirmed against your pharmaceutical-intermediate or steam-treatment requirement before order placement.
Producer batch testing
The producing plant tests each batch against the agreed specification before release.
Documentation review
COA, SDS and transport paperwork checked by our desk before the shipment is booked.
Traceable dispatch
Each shipment is traceable to its producing batch, with full chain-of-custody records on request.
How N,N-diethylethanolamine is made
N,N-Diethylethanolamine is produced industrially by the reaction of ethylene oxide with diethylamine, a route that delivers the fully N,N-diethylated tertiary product directly, followed by purification and fractional distillation.
We do not publish operating process parameters here; this is background only. Full technical and safety documentation accompanies every shipment, and any process-specific detail you need is best confirmed directly with our technical desk.
