What Diphenylamine is used for
Diphenylamine is a white to grey crystalline solid that darkens on exposure to light, made by condensing two molecules of aniline. As a secondary aromatic amine — two phenyl rings sharing one nitrogen — it has distinct antioxidant chemistry from its primary-amine parent.
Its best-known industrial role is as an antioxidant and antiozonant in rubber manufacturing, where it protects rubber compounds from oxidative and ozone-driven degradation during processing and service life. It is also widely used as a stabiliser in lubricants and smokeless powder, as a post-harvest fungicide and scald inhibitor applied to stored apples, and as a dye mordant and general chemical intermediate — including as a precursor to phenothiazine and carbazole.
Where it sits in the aromatic amine family
- Aniline the primary-amine parent compound from which diphenylamine is made. See that page.
- Diphenylamine (this product) a secondary aromatic amine — antioxidant and stabiliser chemistry.
- m-Phenylenediamine a diamine used in polymer and dye chemistry — a different structural class. See that page.
Appearance and handling character
Diphenylamine is toxic if swallowed or inhaled, causes serious eye irritation, may cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure, and is very toxic to aquatic life with long-lasting effects. Full hazard details are in the Safety section below.

How we supply Diphenylamine
Chelora Chemicals is a supplier and sourcing partner, not a manufacturer. Diphenylamine's role as an antioxidant means purity and freedom from colour-forming impurities matter — that shapes how we manage this line.
We place your order with whichever qualified producer best matches your required grade, your price point and your delivery window.
We keep a second qualified source on this line, so a single-plant disruption never becomes your production problem.
- Assay and melting point confirmed before we quote. Consistency matters to antioxidant performance.
- UN 2811/3077 logistics managed end to end. Classification, labelling and carrier compliance confirmed before booking.
- Aquatic-hazard documentation filed correctly. Every shipment carries the correct hazard declarations.
- Scheduled call-off scheduling. We hold contracted tonnage and release it against your consumption calendar.
- Batch traceability to the producing plant. Full chain of custody documentation on request.
- Export machinery handled in-house. Classification, approved packing, labelling, freight booking and customs paperwork are ours to manage.

Toxic, and very toxic to aquatic life
Diphenylamine's combination of acute toxicity and strong aquatic toxicity makes PPE and containment the central handling concerns. The summary below is orientation only — the safety data sheet supplied with your specific batch is the authoritative document.
Classified hazards
H301Toxic if swallowed.H311Toxic in contact with skin.H319Causes serious eye irritation.H331Toxic if inhaled.H373May cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure.H410Very toxic to aquatic life with long-lasting effects.
Always read the SDS issued with your specific batch. Handle with chemical-resistant gloves, goggles and adequate ventilation; avoid any release to waterways.
Storage
Store in tightly closed containers in a cool, dry area protected from light, away from strong oxidisers. The flaked solid is stable at normal ambient storage temperatures when kept dry.
Handling
Use with local exhaust ventilation. Minimise skin, eye and respiratory exposure with appropriate PPE. Contain any spill to prevent waterway contamination — this product is very toxic to aquatic organisms.
Transport
Shipped under UN 2811 (solid) or UN 3077 (environmentally hazardous substance) depending on form and quantity. We confirm and document exact classification for your specific shipment and destination.
Every batch, documented
We verify documentation before dispatch so there are no surprises at your incoming-goods bench.
Specification agreed
Assay and melting point confirmed against your process requirement before order placement.
Producer batch testing
The producing plant tests each batch against the agreed specification before release.
Documentation review
COA, SDS and transport paperwork checked by our desk before the shipment is booked.
Traceable dispatch
Each shipment is traceable to its producing batch, with full chain-of-custody records on request.
How diphenylamine is made
Diphenylamine is produced industrially by the condensation of aniline with itself under heat and catalysis, with loss of ammonia, followed by purification and flaking to the required assay.
We do not publish operating process parameters here; this is background only. Full technical and safety documentation accompanies every shipment, and any process-specific detail you need is best confirmed directly with our technical desk.
