What BPA is used for
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a white, crystalline solid supplied as flakes or prills, produced by the acid-catalysed condensation of phenol with acetone. It is the largest-volume bisphenol compound and one of the most widely produced organic chemicals used in engineering plastics.
BPA's two dominant uses are as the monomer for polycarbonate resin — valued for its optical clarity and impact strength in eyewear lenses, CDs/DVDs, electronics housings, automotive glazing and water bottles — and as the backbone of epoxy resins, reacted with epichlorohydrin for protective coatings, structural adhesives, composites and can/container linings.
Where it sits in the petrochemical value chain
- Phenol + Acetone the two feedstocks condensed into BPA. See Phenol and Acetone.
- Bisphenol A (this product) the engineering-plastic building block for the chains below.
- Polycarbonate / Epoxy Resins the downstream polymers built on BPA.
Handling character
BPA is an eye and respiratory irritant, skin sensitiser, and suspected reproductive toxicant, requiring careful dust control during handling. Full hazard detail is in the Safety section below.

|---|---|
| Appearance | White flakes or prills |
| Assay | 99.8% min (polycarbonate/epoxy grade) |
| Colour (APHA, molten) | Within producer specification |
| Moisture content | < 0.1% |

How we supply Bisphenol A
Chelora Chemicals is a supplier and sourcing partner, not a manufacturer. Colour grade and purity are critical to polycarbonate optical clarity and epoxy performance — that shapes how we manage this line.
We place your order with whichever qualified producer best matches your required grade, your price point and your delivery window, and confirm your jurisdiction's import and regulatory requirements before booking.
We keep a second qualified source on this line, so a single-plant disruption never becomes your production problem.
- Colour grade and purity confirmed before we quote. Consistency matters to downstream polycarbonate optical clarity and epoxy performance.
- Regulatory documentation managed end to end. Classification, labelling and carrier compliance confirmed before booking, including destination-specific BPA regulations.
- Scheduled call-off scheduling. We hold contracted tonnage and release it against your consumption calendar.
- Batch traceability to the producing plant. Full chain of custody documentation on request.
- Export machinery handled in-house. Classification, approved packing, labelling, freight booking and customs paperwork are ours to manage.
- Polycarbonate-grade and epoxy-grade both sourced. Matched precisely to your end-use specification.

Irritant & reproductive toxicant — handle accordingly
BPA causes eye and respiratory irritation, skin sensitisation, and is classified as suspected of damaging fertility. The summary below is orientation only — the safety data sheet supplied with your specific batch is the authoritative document.
Classified hazards
H319+H335Causes serious eye irritation; may cause respiratory irritation.H317May cause an allergic skin reaction.H361fSuspected of damaging fertility.
Control dust during handling. Avoid generating or inhaling fine particulate; always read the SDS issued with your specific batch and follow destination-specific regulatory requirements, which vary by end use and region.
Storage
Store in tightly closed containers (bags, bulk bags) in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from moisture and oxidising agents.
Handling
Use gloves, eye protection and dust masks where fines are generated. Avoid inhalation of dust and prolonged skin contact; manage static and ignition sources during pneumatic handling.
Transport
Not classified as dangerous goods for transport, though GHS labelling for reproductive toxicity and environmental hazard applies. We confirm any destination-specific import or regulatory documentation your shipment requires.
Every batch, documented
We verify documentation before dispatch so there are no surprises at your incoming-goods bench.
Specification agreed
Assay, colour grade and moisture content confirmed against your process requirement before order placement.
Producer batch testing
The producing plant tests each batch against the agreed specification before release.
Documentation review
COA, SDS and transport/regulatory paperwork checked by our desk before the shipment is booked.
Traceable dispatch
Each shipment is traceable to its producing batch, with full chain-of-custody records on request.
How BPA is made
BPA is produced industrially by the acid-catalysed condensation of phenol with acetone, typically using an ion-exchange resin catalyst, with excess phenol used to drive the reaction and suppress isomer by-products. The product is purified by crystallisation and supplied as flakes or prills.
We do not publish operating process parameters here; this is background only. Full technical documentation accompanies every shipment, and any process-specific detail you need is best confirmed directly with our technical desk.
