What Urea is used for
Urea (carbamide) is a white, odourless, crystalline solid typically supplied as prills or granules, highly soluble in water. It is produced industrially by reacting ammonia with carbon dioxide under heat and pressure, making it the natural downstream product of ammonia synthesis.
Urea's single largest use is as the world's leading solid nitrogen fertilizer, supplying 46% nitrogen by weight — the highest of any common solid fertilizer. It is also a key raw material for urea-formaldehyde (UF) resins used in wood panels, and is widely used as an animal feed nitrogen supplement, a feedstock for melamine production, and as the active urea component in diesel exhaust fluid (DEF/AdBlue), which reduces NOx emissions in SCR-equipped diesel engines.
Where it sits in the nitrogen value chain

How we supply Urea
Chelora Chemicals is a supplier and sourcing partner, not a manufacturer. Nitrogen content, biuret level and moisture are critical to fertilizer and DEF quality — that shapes how we manage this line.
We place your order with whichever qualified producer best matches your required grade, your price point and your delivery window, and confirm your jurisdiction's import requirements before booking.
We keep a second qualified source on this line, so a single-plant disruption never becomes your production problem.
- Nitrogen content and biuret level confirmed before we quote. Consistency matters to downstream fertilizer and DEF quality.
- Transport documentation managed end to end. Classification, labelling and carrier compliance confirmed before booking.
- Scheduled call-off scheduling. We hold contracted tonnage and release it against your consumption calendar.
- Batch traceability to the producing plant. Full chain of custody documentation on request.
- Export machinery handled in-house. Classification, approved packing, labelling, freight booking and customs paperwork are ours to manage.
- Fertilizer-grade and technical/feed grade both sourced. Matched precisely to your application.

A low-hazard solid — handled with standard care
Solid urea is a low-toxicity, non-flammable material under normal conditions, and is not classified as hazardous for transport. The summary below is orientation only — the safety data sheet supplied with your specific batch is the authoritative document.
Handling points to note
DustNuisance dust from prill/granule handling; use standard dust controls.HygroscopicAbsorbs moisture; cakes if exposed to humid air.
Low intrinsic hazard, standard industrial hygiene applies. Always read the SDS issued with your specific batch for complete handling guidance.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, off the ground and away from moisture, to prevent caking and maintain free-flowing prills or granules.
Handling
Use standard PPE (gloves, dust protection) for bag and bulk handling. Provide dust controls at transfer and blending points; avoid prolonged inhalation of dust.
Transport
Solid urea is generally not regulated as dangerous goods. We confirm and document classification for liquid urea-ammonium nitrate (UAN) blends, which carry separate requirements.
Every batch, documented
We verify documentation before dispatch so there are no surprises at your incoming-goods bench.
Specification agreed
Nitrogen content, biuret level and moisture confirmed against your application before order placement.
Producer batch testing
The producing plant tests each batch against the agreed specification before release.
Documentation review
COA, SDS and transport paperwork checked by our desk before the shipment is booked.
Traceable dispatch
Each shipment is traceable to its producing batch, with full chain-of-custody records on request.
How urea is made
Urea is produced industrially by the reaction of ammonia with carbon dioxide under heat and pressure to form ammonium carbamate, which is then dehydrated to urea, a long-established route in nitrogen chemistry. The molten product is typically prilled or granulated for fertilizer and industrial use.
We do not publish operating process parameters here; this is background only. Full technical documentation accompanies every shipment, and any process-specific detail you need is best confirmed directly with our technical desk.
